UFC Fight Night 107: Manuwa vs. Anderson ended with a bang as Jimi Manuwa demolished Corey Anderson with a left hook just 3:05 into the first round of their bout. The knockout was devastating enough that Manuwa simply walked off as Anderson fell to the mat.
Anderson looked for takedowns early and often in the fight, but to no avail. Manuwa was ready to shut down the attempts and force Anderson to exchange standing up, where he had a decided advantage. As the midway point passed in the round, Manuwa had Anderson backing up toward the fence and unloaded with a perfect left hook. That would be it for Anderson, who drops to 9-3 after the loss. Manuwa is 17-2 and has won three of his past four fights.
After the bout, Manuwa said that he’d like to fight for the light heavyweight championship, which will be decided in an upcoming rematch between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson.
In other action, Gunnar Nelson was victorious in his bout with Alan Jouban, who was tapped out for the first time in his career after finding himself unable to escape a second-round guillotine choke by Nelson.
Nelson faced little adversity in the fight, taking down Jouban in the first round and even advancing to the mount during the opening stanza. In the second, Nelson showed off his standup skills, landing a straight right and a head kick that would ultimately lead to the final guillotine choke, which Nelson tightened from the mounted position.
Meanwhile, Marlon Vera snatched away what appeared to be a sure unanimous decision victory for Brad Pickett with a head kick and hammerfists for a TKO victory. Pickett, who planned on retiring after the fight, had won the first two rounds with strong punching combinations and timely takedowns, but had no answer in the third round when Vera landed his crushing head kick.
