UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre has been dominating the MMA world for years and now it appears that he is ready to take his game to another arena. Recently, the MMA superstar came to terms with 888poker to become an ambassador for the brand.
The deal was signed last month and will see GSP play at live poker events around the world, including the 2012 World Series of Poker. He is also expected to play in the 888 Superstack series.
GSP was very excited about the deal stating that he “…wanted to play poker for a while now as it is a great game of skill. It is not just your cards versus my cards; it is you versus your opponent.”
Talking further about the deal, we also found out that St-Pierre is playing the game with a purpose in mind. He stated that, “The most important aspect of my partnership with 888poker is that we are going to generate a great deal of money for my foundation that dedicates its efforts towards anti-bullying causes.”
The signing of GSP to Team 888 will help 888poker in their global marketing efforts in 2012 and 2012. According to Senior VP at 888poker Itai Pazner, “The partnership agreement with Georges St-Pierre will strengthen our brand awareness around the globe and introduce 888 to the growing sport of MMA and its fans. It is exciting to have this international sports celebrity on board with us.”
When GSP plays the WSOP this year, he will become the third UFC Champion to play there. Former Light-Heavyweight Champions Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin have both played the WSOP Main Event in the past.
St-Pierre is the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion with a career record of 22 wins verses just 2 defeats. He also holds the all-time record for consecutive middleweight title defenses.
