BJ Penn is taking his training seriously

By on March 24, 2009

UFC lightweight champions BJ Penn insists he is taking his training seriously, following comments made by UFC president Dana White prior to St Pierre vs. Penn.

White suggested that Penn was not taking his training seriously and the champion has admitted there was a time when he relied more on his natural abilities to win a fight.

Penn told Fighters Only Magazine: “I took offence at the because I was training hard. We had a lot of people in there, we had great jiu jitsu guys, great kick boxers that we flew in to spar with, so I was pretty bummed out. If it really wasn’t training then I wouldn’t car, I would have just laughed about it, but I was training hard.

“People are going to think that I am not in shape, this and that, I just have to use that as motivation to get myself in better shape.

“I am emotionally involved and I put a lot of energy in when I step in the ring. I want to get in there and focus on the task at hand. I get serious when I go in a training camp, I train all the time doing all the different stuff that training entails and you get burnt out after a while and sometimes it takes it toll on you.”
