Cane has learned from previous mistakes

By on May 29, 2010

UFC light-heavyweight star Luis Cane insists he has taken lessons from his UFC 106 loss to Rogerio Nogueira.

Cane is set to fight veteran Cyril Diabate at UFC 114 on Saturday.

“I’m not here to make excuses or to justify the defeat; I get angry when I see people do that. The guy came, beat me and I don’t talk about why I was overcome, that if I did this or that, if I trained more standing or on the ground the result would be different – I’m not that kind of guy and that isn’t fair. I stepped up and was beaten – that was what happened,” he told Brazilian MMA magazine Tatame.

“My fatal mistake was to lose control. But I realized one thing after that catastrophe – do not confuse defeats with failures and victories with success. The difference is that champions grow with the defeat while losers satisfy themselves with their victories.”

He added on his fight with Diabate: “I think this fight is great for my return. Diabate is considered one of the best strikers in the world and with the training I was under, I know we’re going to show a good fight.”
