Faber not impressed by GSP

By on February 28, 2009

Urijah Faber insists he believes Brazilian middleweight champ Anderson Silva is a better fighter than Canadian star Georges St Pierre.

Faber wants a fight with BJ Penn and insists he is not impressed with St Pierre’s victory over the Hawaiian legend last month.

He told The Sun: "I don’t think GSP is on a totally different level to the rest of the fighters out there.

"BJ was at a huge disadvantage being the smaller guy – 15lbs of muscle mass is a lot to give up to such an athletic and technically sound opponent like GSP.

"I think St Pierre improved since the last time they fought and has put on more muscle and increased his knowledge on all aspects of the game.

"I believe BJ trained hard but people forget he is a 155lbs guy whereas GSP is one of the biggest welterweights out there – he could fight at middleweight.

"BJ did the bold thing and moved up but people forget about that.

"A fight between GSP and Anderson Silva would be awesome but I would favour Anderson in that fight.

"When it comes down to it, he has a stand up advantage, GSP a small wrestling advantage but the ground game would be about even.

"But Silva is the bigger fighter and would probably come out on to."
