Faber wants to fight BJ Penn

By Hakon on February 24, 2009

Urijah Faber has revealed that he wants a fight against UFC lightweight champions BJ Penn.

The California Kid currently fights in the UFC’s sister promotion, the WEC. Faber has impressed in the promotion with a 22-2 record and has won several fights against top opponents.

Faber is now prepared to change weight class in order to get a fight with The Prodigy. Faber was WEC featherweight champion for 32 months, but lost his title to Mike Brown last November.

He told The Sun: "I’m the poster boy for the WEC so it wouldn’t make much sense for Zuffa to move me over to the UFC but I would like to do some superfights.

"I’m hoping for a rematch against Mike Brown and I assume I will have a shot again at him fairly soon.

"But before it’s all said and done, I’ll probably move up to 155lbs and I’ll probably also move down to 135lbs and try to maintain my consistency at 145lbs too.

"I want to try and find some superfights – so I’ll definitely go up and down the weight classes a little bit.

"A fight with BJ Penn would be a superfight for sure. But there’s also Miguel Torres and Kid Yamamoto.

"There are a lot of guys in the WEC who are really starting to make a name for themselves at 145lbs but BJ could be a fight for the future for sure.

"But I don’t foresee that in the immediate future."
