Gomi confident he can beat UFC champ

By on September 2, 2010

Former PRIDE lightweight champion Takanori Gomi is confident he can beat UFC champion Frankie Edgar.

Gomi believes he has a better chance of beating Edgar than he does of beating BJ Penn.

“BJ [and Kenny] Florian have a jiu-jitsu base so I had a hard time dealing with them but the champion has a wrestling base so I can fight him calmly,” he said at a press conference held in Japan to promote the UFC Undisputed 2010 video game, according to Nightmare of Battle.

“I’m aiming for the belt? Yes, I am. I think I can take the belt. Hmmm…I wonder if I’m stronger than the champ?” he added with a smile.
