Maia backs Belfort for title shot

Demian Maia believes Vitor Belfort deserves a title shot against Anderson Silva.

Belfort impressed with a first round knockout of Rich Franklin at UFC 103.

UFC president Dana White has previously hinted that Belfort would fight Anderson at UFC 108 in January 2010.

Maia told Terra.com.br: “Vitor is a man who deserves to be among the best. Dan Henderson and Nate Marquardt have already faced Anderson so the UFC wants something new. Vitor sells like hot cakes, especially now. Other guys fought Anderson but not Vitor and it sells more. It’s a question of business.

“Vitor is always dangerous in the beginning. Right away, as soon as they start it’s a harzadous fight for Anderson but if it gets longer, Silva may take advantage. It will depend on who will impose his own game.”
