Melendez wants to see Shields fight St-Pierre

Strikeforce star Gilbert Melendez has admitted he would like to see his longtime teammate and training partner Jake Shields fight Georges St-Pierre.

Shields has left Strikeforce and is expected to join the UFC in the neat future.

“I think he’s going to do great out there,” Melendez said of Shield’s expected move to the UFC. “I really want to see him fight Georges St-Pierre.

“I know he can beat GSP and I look forward to seeing that happen.”

“Of course I wish he was with me in Strikeforce, but he’s got to do what he’s got to do and I support him 100 percent,” Melendez told MMAWeekly.com.

“I think it’s time for him to go for broke. He already cleaned out Strikeforce, so now it’s time for him to clear out the UFC.”
