Alistair Overeem is targeting a fight against Fedor Emelianenko after successfully defending his Strikeforce heavyweight title against Brett Rogers in the main event of Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery last night.
Overeem was impressive against Rogers and finished the fight at 3:40 of round one.
“I’m happy to be fighting for Strikeforce again,” Overeem said in the post-fight press conference. “It’s been too long. I think it’s a hell of a comeback. …You definitely won’t have to wait that long again. I said in 2009, I’m hoping to make Strikeforce my priority [this year].”
Overeem admits he hopes to face Fedor Emelianenko in his next fight for Strikeforce.
“His management declined to fight me tonight,” Overeem said. “Respect for Brett. He stood up and wanted to fight me like a man. I think it’s Fedor’s turn.”
