Ross Pearson has admitted that he believes Frankie Edgar will be able to stay UFC lightweight champion for ‘a good while’.
Pearson helped Edgar during the lightweight champion’s training camp for his rematch with BJ Penn at UFC 118.
“I think Frankie is the kind of guy who is very scrappy, he has great wrestling, great foot speed, I think he can hold it for a while,” Pearson told Fighters Only Magazine.
“We did a good eight rounds and I enjoyed it. Like I say to everyone, you have to find [your opponent’s] weaknesses and exploit them but it was hard to find a weakness with Frankie. He had good stand-up, good footwork and his takedowns are unbelievable.”
“He took me down several times and it was hard work getting back to my feet with him having that wrestling base. But it showed me what I need to be working on and where I am in the sport right now,” Pearson added.
“I am nowhere near ready for a title shot yet, but I don’t think that any of the [lightweight] guys really have the stand-up background that I have got. That’s my main area of training and where I am best at in a fight, so that’s what I am going to be looking for in most fights. I just need to work on my wrestling and BJJ and once that comes along I think I will be quite a force.”
