BJ Penn’s lawyer, Raffi A. Nahabedian, has let the Nevada State Athletic Commission know that his client still intends to file a formal complaint against George St. Pierre’s potentially improper use of Vaseline on his body.
There have been a lot of discussions regarding St. Pierre’s cornermen’s actions during the UFC 94 fight between the two. Penn has accused St. Pierre for using Vaseline on his shoulders in order to make it harder for his opponent to get any grip when grappling.
"In order for Mr. Penn (or any other licensed fighter of the Nevada Athletic Commission) to properly executive Brazilian jiu-jitsu or the many other grappling techniques which are an essential part of MMA, it is necessary that an environment exists without any illegally applied lubricants, oils or other substances that cause or result in slippery surfaces on the combatants," Nahabedian stated in his original letter to the NSAC.
"I know that the matter is going to be coming up in the near future. We also are intending on filing a complaint with the athletic commission with respect to the persons that are licensed by the state such as Mr. St. Pierre, Mr. (Greg) Jackson and Mr. (Phil) Nurse relating to their activities as well as other members of their team that are licensed by the state."
