Jake Shields is looking forward to fighting Robbie Lawler at Strikeforce’s May show in Tacoma, Washington.
The two will fight at a catchweight of 182 pounds and although he is changing weight classes, the former EliteXC fighter is looking forward to the fight.
“I am super excited about this fight and this opportunity. I’ve always wanted to fight the top level guys. That’s not to say the guys I’ve fought recently weren’t good fighters because they were,” Shields said at a press conference on March 12.
“But Lawler is a high-profile fighter, a top-five middleweight. So this is a real challenge for me and a fight that has me highly motivated.”
Shields also commented on fighting on Showtime again for the Strikeforce organization.
“I am very happy to be fighting on Showtime again,” he said. “This is definitely going to be a great fight and I am super happy to be part of this. Strikeforce is going to be doing a lot of good things in the future.”
The fights between Shields and Lawler will be televised on Showtime.
