St-Pierre expects Evans to win

By on May 23, 2009

UFC superstar Georges St-Pierre is ‘confident’ that Rashad Evans will win his fight against Lyoto Machida at UFC 98 tonight.

Evans and Machida will fight for the light-heavyweight title and St-Pierre Expects Evans to play the waiting game.

“Even though Rashad is the underdog, I’m very confident he is going to win this fight,” St-Pierre told Setanta Sports.

“He is always well prepared and Evans is the kind of guy who always comes into the fight as the underdog.

“Machida is a technician, he is very good when people rush him.The worst thing Rashad can do is rush him and hunt him down like a bull. That would not be a smart way to fight Machida.

“But I don’t think that’s what Rashad’s gonna do. It’s all about strategy.”

St-Pierre added on the co-main event between Matt Hughes and Matt Serra: “Matt Hughes is one of the greatest, if not the greatest champion in UFC history.

“He’s coming off two losses, but he wasn’t 100 percent, he’s had knee surgery and I’m sure he’s going to come back on top.

“Matt Serra hits very hard, he’s got a great overhand right, but Hughes has great wrestling skills.

“If there’s one place Serra can win this fight, it’s on his feet. The only other possibility is between the striking and the grappling.

“On the other side, if the fight goes to the ground, Hughes will establish himself and it will be a long night for Serra.”
