Strikeforce are searching for a new main-card fighter just 10 days before the April 11 event, “Shamrock vs. Diaz”.
Josh Thomson, lightweight champions, was forced to withdraw from his fight with Gilbert Melendez after suffering a broken leg in training.
“It’s unfortunate,” Strikeforce Director of Communications Mike Afromowitz told MMAjunkie.com. “I feel bad for Josh. He was training really hard and looking really good.
“It happens, though.”
Thomson was clearly disappointed with having to withdraw from the fight.
“I was sparring hard and I broke my leg, above my ankle, during an exchange,” Thomson stated. “I’m very upset. All the hard work was done and it was time to fight.
“I was looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans. All I can say is that I’ll be back when I get healthy.”
