Customer Reviews

3 stars Knife fighting
Bought it for my husband. He said it had basic information but was very informative. It reviews the major cutting areas and techniques. He would recommend it. It is the type of book that you'll read and then go back and read again to pick up fine points.

1 stars Worthless
The only thing you will learn is to not knife fight.

Waste of money you will learn 10 times more surfing the internet.

3 stars Good Fighting book, NOT a knife defense book
Michael Janichs book does exactly what it says. It gives a person a basic overview of his knife fighting curriculum. It covers different grips, the pros and cons of each grip and what he recommends and why. He introduces his zone theory and basic knife fighting skills. He shows basic thrusts and cuts, he shows some basic defenses. After that he gives examples of some common attacks and defenses for knife fighting.

He then recommends some other books and videos on knife fighting.

The book shows you the basics of "how to fight knife to knife."

What he doesn't spend much time on is defending yourself if attacked with a knife when you don't have your knife out already. He does give a few examples, but it's definitely not the focus. Also, there is virtually no details on defending yourself from a knife if you do not have one.

While these may seem like oversights, they are not the focus of the book. The focus is to teach you the basics of his knife fighting system, pitting knife vs knife. This takes place after the initial ambush and where the fight/duel itself begins.

4 stars Knife Fighting: A Practical Course
This is a good basics book. The author is easy to follow and does a good job explaining the moves. A must for your knife library.

4 stars Good, a little complex to read but street oriented
Good introductive book on street knife fighting.
Quality and volume of pictures is pretty good, although in black and white.
The book is realistic, oriented to the fight on the streets, has an offensive mentality (which means cuts and strikes are discussed, with text and photos) and offers many drills to practice the techniques.
I would ideally combine it with the DVD of James Webb also regarding knife fights.
Good and interesting. Maybe the text is a little too redundant which complicates the reading a little.
