4 stars Pleasant rendition of this classic, but not great...
I found this version of Sense & Sensibility to be OK. However, I think I prefer the Masterpiece Theater one better. Though this had all the elements needed for the production, it just seemed a little watered down in comparison, like they were watching the budget and had to cut a few corners along the way. Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet & Alan Rickman are all recognizable Hollywood names, but they seemed a bit wooden for my taste, especially Hugh Grant. He acted like he was fairly bored with the whole thing.... I am glad to have it for comparison, but I will probably not watch it often. (I had not seen the other version until after I purchased this one). If you like to buy films for the stars in them, then this is good choice for you. The story is still there, but the Masterpiece Theater version is a bit meatier!


5 stars Jane Austen Reincarnated
How many of us have felt that we are one of Jane Austen's characters reincarnated? Her characters are real to us and share the same feelings even though they were created years ago. That's the way I feel about Elinor and Marianne in Sense and Sensibility. Being the older sister, I have suffered with my little sister many times. The love between these characters is very real. This movie is one of my favorite Austen adaptations. Emma Thompson did a fabulous job with the screenplay. And, dare I say it? ALMOST improved upon the book - since S&S was one of my LEASE favorite Austen books. Anyway, you'll love it.

5 stars Sensible
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I do not belive a better version of Sense and Sensability could be made. Everything is beautiful, the actors the landscapes the home decor the clothing the music. The acting is amazing (but not suprising from a cast that leads off with Emma Thompson). When I wear this out I will buy another!
